Review of Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit (HASU)
13th May 2024

Everyone was absolutely wonderful So compassionate and caring We could not have been treated with more care The kindness and care shown to our mother was amazing She died with such dignity and peace. We are unable to thank everyone enough. We were kept informed and respected at all times. Faultless care from everyone Thank you for making such a difficult time a dignified and beautiful experience.

Review of Outpatient Team 2

It took about an hour from arriving for my appointment to being seen however, once I was called I was treated very well by all the staff on duty. I was taken through for a variety of procedures culminating with the doctor in charge calling me. Everyone explained what they were doing and what I could expect and what to do if anything went wrong. In the end, I was in the hospital for not much more than 2 hours

Suggested improvements
Nothing really, at least not the medical staff. The worst part is, the parking situation. This is definitely not motorist friendly!!

Dr Tsekes is an excellent doctor, concerned, informative and interested. His staff were efficient and courteous. He was punctual, despite his backload, and also gave me advice on something that wasn't strictly his responsibility.

Review of Postnatal Ward
13th May 2024

The care was hit and miss. If certain staff members were on shift the care was good and would have been 5*, however there was a lack of communication regarding my length of stay in hospital, no return for communication of results after tests being untaken for jaundice, i asked about my catheter being full following csec as i felt an uncomfortable urge to urinate but was told to ‘just relax’ only later for another staff member to see urine had leaked all over the floor and this also resulted in a kidney infection- when i mentioned said infection to the doctor as i was experiencing blood whilst weeing opposed to the usual post birth blood you’d expect there was an air of disbelief and being spoken to as though i was stupid. I wasn’t routinely seen by a doctor during my stay with little communication as to why i was there so long. The woman in the bay next to me appeared to have multiple family members ‘visit’ throughout the day (approx 7-10 at a time) and they would stay until midnight, and she then proceeded to watch videos and play music with her husband throughout the night - nothing was done about this by staff even following complaints. I’m really sad to be leaving such negative feedback because after hearsay i was petrified to be having my baby at Queens, but was so happy with the midwife appointments, the triage visits, the actual labor experience and doctor team for the emergency csec was amazing - my surgery and scar, etc are all amazing and i can’t fault it so it’s such a shame that the post natal ward care was poor. Again, i’d like to emphasise it wasn’t every staff member so apologies to those who are brilliant at their job as there are some.

Suggested improvements
As above. Better communication and more timely communication following tests. Doctor to not disbelieve a patient regarding physical health?!! To be offered more water. On a positive note, the encouragement and support with breastfeeding was great for a first time mum. I also found a lack of support after having a csec with regards to attending to my baby when he was crying it was a massive stuggle to get out the bed and walk round to him, lift him up and get back in bed with to feed him and again to put him back in the cot afterwards which resulted in me mostly sleeping with him on my chest for the 3 days i was in hospital as it was easier.

Review of Medical Receiving Unit

No complaints about my stay and the staff - each and every one of them - work exceptionally hard. Only thing I'd say (which I'm sure can't be changed) but the fact the bays have no windows/natural light makes them extremely depressing and not conducive to lightening an already fragile mood.

Review of Sunrise Ward A

I feel that the nurses did their best especially as they were so busy. They were so patient and kind not just shown to me but other patients. Also, I was impressed by the thoroughness of cleaning in my bay.

I was expecting my first joint pituitary/ neurosurgery appointment with Dr Stojanovic and Dr Shoakazemi, but only saw the Registrar for neurosurgery. The meeting was held in a small room with a trainee doctor sitting behind me. I felt squeezed in at the appointment. There was also hypothetical information given about the endoscopic transnasal transphenoidal surgery which was told to me like a pre operation chat. I felt isolated and not listened to. I was meant to be seen 2 weeks earlier which was changed to a phone appointment. I expressed concern about this and was given the above face to face appointment . I should hope to see my Endocrinologist, Dr Stojanovic, again before too long?
